Visitors to Bordeaux’s Saint-Emilion might be surprised to see Château Canon’s walled vineyards extending into the village itself but would surely do a double-take at the sight of these Premier Grand Cru Classé vines still being ploughed by horse. A rare sight today, indeed, and so too is the style of this Grand Vin, which harks back to a bygone era of Bordeaux. Although 2010 was a powerhouse vintage, Canon has managed to rein in the voluptuous fruit, mocha, dark cherry and spice, balancing them admirably with cooling acidity and fine-boned tannins. Just entering its drinking window, this classic claret is excellent right now with roast lamb, game or steak frites.

Reviews & Scores
Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Canon features wonderfully expressive notes of dried mulberries, stewed plums and baked black cherries with hints of mocha, bay leaves and fallen leaves. Full-bodied, opulent and super spicy, it has a plush texture with a racy line supporting the hedonic fruit, finishing with jaw-dropping persistence. - WA
